Homeschooling has been a lot of fun.  For the last month we have had Destiny join us.
We can't forget about cute little Chase.  He is almost 5 months now.  Wow!!!
We started the night off with an Egyptian Dinner.  Egyptians ate unleavened bread, so we did Chicken Ceaser Pita's for dinner, The Egyptians ate a lot of fruit,  so we had a yummy Fruit Salad. Egyptians loved to drink Beer and Wine.  So we had Grape Juice.   After Dinner all our guest came over to watch Destiny and Kayden present their Power Point Presentations. We also had Desert fruit pizza, Brownies, and Carmel Chex Mix.

Kayden, had so much fun giving his presentation.  He had a lot of information.  He was so animated and just loved every minute of presenting his slides.
What a fun evening with friends and learning all about Ancient Egypt.

Pinewood Derby time!

Chandler's very first Pinewood Derby.
Making a pinewood Derby car in Korea was a challenge.  All of our tools were in storage. Jeremy had to run to the store and get a saw so we could cut and shape the car.  Chandler did an great job helping Jeremy cut it and sanding, and painting it all by himself.  Another challenge was putting the weight on.  Jeremy usually melts down lead and pours it into the car. But again we didn't have any tools.  So we took quarters and army tape.  It totally worked.

I think this was Chandler's favorite part.  Putting the car on the race track.

The Boy Scouts were asked to help with The Pinewood Derby.

Kayden enjoyed giving the trophies to the boys.

Chandler was so excited.  He won 1st place.  Way to go CHANDLER!!!

Brooklyn and friends.

Today was such a crazy day.  We had Brooklyn's First Swim Meet and Chandler's first Pinewood Derby.  It was a crazy fun day.  I was able to watch 2/5 heats.  Super sad I missed the other two races.  But I had to run back to the Pinewood Derby and run the flag ceremony and a skit.  What a busy busy day.

Daddy and his Baby Girl!  Jeremy, had play practice and was running back and forth

Brooklyn's Coach gives her index cards and Brooklyn gets to choose the 5 heats (races) she will participate in.  Here is Brooklyn's cards.

I was able to be a timer at Brooklyn's Swim Meet in Youngsan. What a fun place to be.  Front row and you get to see everything.  You do get wet.  It was almost like watching a Sea World Show.   I was sitting in the "Splash Zone."

Homeschooling Kayden

This decision has been the hardest decision I have ever had to make.   With much fasting and praying Jeremy and I have decided to HOMESCHOOL Kayden.

For the next 10 days we researched different curriculums.  Trying to find the perfect fit for Kayden.  I felt so un easy I kept worrying about what the future would hold and what if I can't do this? What if I can't Homeschool??  What if I make matters worse?  What if he can't graduate because I am homeschooling?  And 1,000 other reasons.  I just kept doubting my decision.  I prayed again to get guidance and help.  The LORD told me, "Tina, stop living your life in the future. You need to do what is important NOW."  Wow, what an answer.  I stopped worrying and just kept researching.  Jeremy and I would sit for 3-4 hours each night and I would show him what I found and he would research and share what he found and still nothing.  GRRRR we were getting really frustrated.  Some curriculums we liked others were not a great fit for Kayden.  Some were so expensive that we just couldn't do them if we wanted too.  It was like paying for a private school ;-/  Again I was getting really frustrated.  I knew that we needed to homeschool Kayden we had received that answer.  But how?  I didn't know.  I was so weighted down.  I just didn't know what I was going to do...
The next day my friend Crystal Brown came over to my house and gave me two books, The Well Trained Mind by Susan Wise Bauer. And Charlotte Mason.  Both of these programs were different homeschooling methods.  I had already research several homeschooling programs online I could pick things I loved out of each of these different programs but none that really was a perfect fit for us.   I was praying one morning that my mind would be clear and I would find a program for Kayden.  I was inspired to read one of the Book Crystal brought over.  The Well Trained Mind. I cannot believe how much the spirit spoke to me. This was it, this is the program I want to use.  (The Well Trained Mind It is a guide to a classical education teaching the trivium of learning.  How to read, think, and speak.)  I got so excited the more and more I read the book.  The more I loved the program. It all made so much sense. This program really focused on the foundation of “Learning”.  Reading, spelling, writing, punctuation, grammar, vocab, after you have mastered that  you move on to How to think, solve, argue, conclude, analyze, research, listen, Then you move on to How to speak, discuss, write, outline, analyze, research and deliver.  BRILLIANT!!!!  I had a vision.  I knew what I needed to do to help Kayden.  I need to help him build his foundation.  I'm so excited!!!  I really wanted to scream from the roof tops.  The first thing I did was purchase this awesome Homeschooling book.  I then purchased a Spelling, Phonics, Reading, Language  program. A History Program we are studying The Ancient History with a life size timeline. We are working on Biology for science.  We purchased a Pre-Algebra Saxon Math program.  Kayden will continue taking Band at the DODEA School. I am really excited and a little scared to start our new adventure of Homeschooling.
We chose Saxton Math.  I really love how this math program is set up.  You start the day off with a 5 min fact practice test.  followed by Mental math and problem solving.  You then work on the new concept of the day with some lesson practice after the lesson Kayden independently does the Mix practice.  it has 30 questions.  The mix practice includes equations from previous lessons.  All mix reviews are like that and all the test are a cumulative.  We really have enjoyed working with Saxon Math.

Our first "Unit" Study is Ancient Egypt.
Language Arts, this is not Kayden's favorite class.
Kayden is still playing the trombone

We are going to study Biology this year.

Spelling, and Phonics.

Kayden, doing some crafts with Dawna.

For the last 3 weeks I have had two 14 year olds doing homeschool.
It's been really fun having her.  I think Kayden has enjoyed her company.

Destiny and Kayden working hard on their math.
Kayden, loves to listen to classical music while he works.  He also needs something in his mouth aka gum, candy, something to suck on.  He has to keep his right brain entertained so that his left brain can work hard.

Kayden hard at work.
  We really are loving Homeschool.

Scripture Study "Agency and Accountability"

This month's Scripture Study has been a lot of fun as we have learned more about our "Agency" and the fact that we have the ability to CHOOSE all our actions.  We fought for this divine right in heaven, 1/3 of the host of heaven left with Lucifer because they had the right to choose.  We know that we chose to follow Heavenly Father because we are here on earth to gain a body and use our "Agency" to return and live with our Loving Heavenly Father.

Agency is followed by Accountability   I have told our Children many times, "You are able to "CHOOSE"  your actions, However, you are NOT able to choose the "CONSEQUENCE" of your actions."

We learned that some choices bring us temporary or worldly joy but this joy can lead to heartache and misery. While some of our other choices bring lasting and eternal happiness.

One of our kids favorite stories was from Shayne M. Bowen of the Seventy.  The story was told of an old Cherokee. He was teaching his grandson about life, and about a fight going on inside us.  He said, "It's a terrible fight, and it is between two wolves.  One is evil: he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego."
He continues, "The other is Good: he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.  The same fight is going on inside you and inside every other person too."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"
The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you Feed."
A question we asked all through out the month is "What Wolf are you feeding?"  We are indeed responsible for our actions, good or bad, and the consequences that come with those decisions.

True freedom comes from using your agency to choose OBEDIENCE.
Loss of Freedom comes from choosing DISOBEDIENCE.
Are your choices leading you toward lasting happiness?

Another favorite talk was by our Prophet Thomas S. Monson. It's called The Three Rs of Choice link here
The 3 Rs are:
#1 The right of choice- President Monson said,"I am so grateful to a loving Heavenly Father for His gift of agency, or the right to choose."
#2 The responsibility of choice- President Monson said,"with the right of choice comes the responsibility to choose. We cannot be neutral; there is no middle ground."
#3 The results of choice- President Monson said, "All of our choices have consequences, some of which have little or nothing to do with our eternal salvation and others of which have everything to do with it."

Some of our Favorite Scriptures:

2 Corinthians 5:10-It’s all about our choices and how we want to live good or bad

2Nephi 9:25-We are judge differently by the knowledge of the Gospel we all have. Everyone is on different levels of the Gospel and understanding of the Gospel. We are all  judged differently because of those levels of understanding.

Galations 6:7 We receive consequences according to the choices we make.

2 Nephi 2:27 Men are free to choose liberty and Eternal life or Captivity and Death

Helaman 14:30– Free to ACT for yourself.

Ecodus 24:7 We will do all that the Lord has asked us to do and we will be obedient.

D&C 29:39 We need Satan to tempt us so we can be our own Agents.

D&C 37:4– Every man Choose for himself.

D&C 101:78– Accountable for Own Choices!

Moses 7:32– The  Lord gave unto man his Agency

D&C 42:32– Everyman shall be made Accountable for his stewardship
